From Red to Green: The Behaviors That Predict Big Results

After a decade of coaching founders and executive teams across Guyana and the Caribbean, one pattern is impossible to ignore: outcomes follow behavior. Not personality, not luck, behavior. To make the path to results visible and practical, I use a simple Traffic-Light Accountability System based on seven weekly habits. It tells you at a glance why some companies sprint while others stall, and what to do next.

The Traffic-Light Accountability Score

StatusWhat it meansTypical trajectory
REDYou’re missing most core habits.Stagnation, frequent crises, little compounding.
YELLOWYou’re consistent on about half.Steady progress, ~1:2 return on coaching time and fees.
GREENYou execute all seven habits.Rapid personal and business growth, ~1:7 return.*

*Returns are observed ranges over 12–18 months across multiple clients. They’re not a guarantee; they’re a strong signal of what consistent behavior produces.

The Seven Habits (and how to make each one real)

  1. Personal Foundations: fitness, education, relationships
Leaders leak or radiate energy. When you train, learn, and nurture key relationships, your team mirrors that standard.
Make it real: Schedule three workouts weekly, one hour of learning, and one intentional relationship touchpoint.
  2. Focus Sheet submitted ≥24 hours before coaching
Preparation multiplies the value of each session; it lets us solve the right problems fast.
Make it real: Block a recurring calendar alert 30 hours before each session. Submit early; update if needed.
  3. Fast responsiveness (email, calls, texts)
Momentum hates lag. Quick replies keep decisions moving and clear roadblocks before they harden.
Make it real: Two daily 15-minute “inbox sprints” to clear what only you can decide.
  4. Monthly financials for review, education, and recommendations
You can’t scale what you don’t measure. Clean, timely P&L, balance sheet, and cash flow create better decisions.
Make it real: Set a monthly “Finance Friday” to close books and share—no roll-overs.
  5. Complete Focus Sheet assignments
Execution is the respect you pay to your own strategy. Done beats perfect; perfect rarely ships.
Make it real: Commit to one “Big 3” each week and ship them before Friday noon.
  6. Evolving 90-day plans
Quarterly planning (e.g., GrowthCLUB) turns ambition into sprints: clear priorities, owners and numbers.
Make it real: Book your next 90-day planning date now and cascade the plan into weekly rocks.
  7. Between-session outreach for guidance on important matters
Waiting a month to ask for help is expensive. Use coaching as a real-time asset, not a monthly event.
Make it real: If a blocker lasts >24 hours, send a message. Small course corrections prevent big detours.

Score Yourself (last 30 days)

Give yourself 1 point for each habit you completed consistently:

  • Personal foundations
  • Focus Sheet on time (≥24 hrs early)
  • Fast responsiveness
  • Monthly financials submitted
  • Assignments completed
  • Current 90-day plan
  • Between-session outreach

0–3 = RED, 4–5 = YELLOW, 6–7 = GREEN. Your color isn’t a label; it’s a dashboard light. Change the inputs, and the light changes.

A One-Month Sprint to Move Up a Color

  • Calendar the behaviors. Recurring blocks for Focus Sheet prep, inbox sprints, workouts, learning and Finance Friday.
  • Narrow your scope. Define a weekly “Big 3” and decline everything that dilutes those.
  • Publish your numbers. Share a simple weekly scorecard with your team; visibility creates ownership.
  • Trigger early help. Any blocker >24 hours? Ask for guidance immediately.
  • Book your next 90-day plan. Lock the date; invite owners; show up with clean financials and a clear theme.

Why This Works

These seven habits compound because they align three levers: clarity (plans and numbers), cadence (weekly and monthly rituals) and coaching (fast feedback). When those levers sync, your people focus, execution speeds up, and cash follows discipline.

Closing the Loop

If you’re RED, don’t negotiate with the list, install it. If you’re YELLOW, choose two weak habits and make them non-negotiable this month. If you’re GREEN, raise the bar: shorten decision cycles, delegate faster, and scale the rituals to your whole leadership team.

For ActionCOACH Guyana clients and partners, this is how we turn intention into transformation. Submit your next Focus Sheet 24 hours early, bring your latest financials, and arrive ready to execute. The traffic light will change, because you did.
