Historically, I’ve done most of my admin work myself. I thought it was more efficient to complete tasks quickly rather than delegating them via email.
However, I’ve come to understand that there’s a key distinction in our growth journey.
If I do it myself, then I completed the task. But if I email instructions to someone else, then the business completed the task, even if it took me just as long to write the email.
Initially, I was resistant to this idea. It seemed counterintuitive to take more time to do something when you could do it faster. But it’s all about systems.
Systems are crucial for growth businesses because they are repeatable, consistent, and reliable. Implementing these systems, learning how to use them, and shifting our business operations into these systems is where the magic happens over time.
Without systems, we are running a process that is vulnerable to disruptions, like a bus running someone over. So, even if it requires a little more work initially to set up and operate these systems correctly, the benefits are worth it.
Lesson learned.
