I once asked a client what crosses their mind when they wake each day.
Their response? “I wonder where my next customer will come from. Thoughts of meeting payroll occupy my mind, and I question whether my employees are content enough to stay.”
I nodded in understanding and posed the same question to them – “So, what did I wake up thinking this morning?”
Expecting a different answer, they were met with my straightforward words, “Nope, I woke up with the same concerns. The quest for the next customer, the puzzle of payroll, and the well-being of my team.”
Indeed, you might have had similar thoughts as well when you began your day.
Why? Because you’re human.
What’s the lesson here? It’s about grabbing that phone, reaching out to the people you want to collaborate with, and assuming that something might need fixing in their world. Extend a helping hand because, honestly, they are grappling with the very same issues.
Often, they’re battling similar problems, and all they truly desire is a bit more ease in their lives.
It doesn’t have to be as intimidating as it seems. Picking up the phone, saying hello in person, or connecting on LinkedIn to offer your assistance shouldn’t be scary.
Remember, nearly every person on this planet faces akin problems and desires. Are you courageous enough to ask if they need a hand?
